Costumes: Fishers/Maui Ensemble

Fishers (Maui Ensemble): Sleeveless t-shirt/tank in light shades of purple/blue/yellow/green, tan shorts/crops. MYTP will be providing additional pieces.

PROPS: In class we started to develop our characters and what makes us distinctly them! All Villagers/Fishers are going to be using a prop to help establish this. This prop will be decided on by the actor, and also brought in by the actor (once we resume rehearsals in the new year). Examples of acceptable props includes: Basket of plastic fruits, nets, drums, leaves/feathers, weaving baskets, fabrics, coconuts, etc. You can find lots of great ideas by watching the song “Where You Are” from the movie on YouTube! Please note, there are a couple of rules with these props:

  1. It can’t make noise! Nothing jingley, or if you decide on a musical instrument it can’t be played on stage.
  2. It can’t be too big! It should be able to be held comfortably in two hands (even preferably one). During the scenes, they will be carried and also set down, so it can’t take up a huge amount of floor space either.
  3. It can’t be dangerous! Nothing sharp. Even if you are not planning on using it like that, it always needs to be safe on stage and off.
  4. Must look natural! The story of Moana takes place thousands of years ago. They didn’t have technology or even things like plastic. Just keep this in mind!

General Notes:

If you can’t find these items in your closet or the regular stores you shop at; don’t forget that thrift stores often have the items that you’re looking for, especially if the colours we are asking you to find are not this season’s colours! Salvation Army and Once Upon a Child in Milton are great resources, as is the Value Village on Dundas at Winston Churchill. There are also some online thrift stores you can look into now such as Poshmark and ThredUp. You can also try Walmart, Michaels or Amazon.

Please wear clothing only in the colours listed for your character. When we design the show we have specific looks for all the characters!

Please note: No logos or characters on clothing. No tattoos, florals, grass skirts or “Hawaiian” motifs.

Hair/Make-Up: Standard requirements as shown on main Costumes/Hair/Makeup tab. Unless otherwise stated above.

Shoes: Jazz/Ballet shoes worn in rehearsal.

Socks/Undergarments: Please be mindful of these choices. Socks should match your pant or shoe colour (or omit entirely). Undergarments should not be able to be seen through your costume pieces.

Masks: Black standard mask or clear shield required; more details to follow in Newsletter #3.

Some cast members are playing more than one role; we have created a base look and MYTP will be providing the rest for all characters. These additional items will be provided during show week.

Please treat your costumes like costumes! Even if they are made of items found in your closet, once chosen, please leave them to the side and do not wear them out (to the store, school, etc.) until after show week.

ALL COSTUMES WILL BE SUBJECT TO CHECK CONFIRMATION FROM THE DIRECTORS. PLEASE SEND IN A PHOTO TO MYTPINFO@GMAIL.COM ONCE YOU HAVE A COMPLETED FULL COSTUME. THIS IS DUE ANYTIME BETWEEN NOW AND DEC 12 2021.
